TUM Asia had sealed an agreement for the TUM CREATE Centre for ElectroMobility in Megacities with National Research Foundation (NRF) Singapore on 11th June 2010

TUM Asia managing director Dr Markus Waechter under the witness of TUM Professor Lienkamp, and representatives from the National Research Foundation has signed an agreement for the TUM Create Centre for ElectroMobility in Megacities.

The Campus for Research Excellence And Technological Enterprise (CREATE) is a centre that brings together a few selected world class research universities and institutions into one location and riding on a manifestation of ideas with experts from different background to create greater innovation . TUM is selected for this research project based on its known ability in its research areas and it capability to translate these research outcomes that benefits the economy and society.

The TUM Create research enterprise in Singapore will be a first for a German university to be involved in extensively, and also a first in its research endeavour outside Munich. With TUM’s established collaboration with Audi and Siemens Germany and its partnership with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore, the TUM Create research programme will help capitalize on these resources, bringing the strengths of TUM in power train, controls, energy management , infrastructure and transport, prototyping and testbedding, in conjunction with its strong academic standing with NTU and its competencies in terms of battery technologies and management systems, power electronics , embedded system, vehicle telemetry and fundamentals of electrochemistry, to develop innovative systems that incorporate safety and reliability  with functionality and energy efficiency in electric vehicles.

The research would be mainly carried out in Singapore and would be complemented by some research activities at TUM in Munich.  TUM would have as research partners, primarily the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (NUS-SERIS) but would also work with other research institutions and industry.

TUM President Prof Wolfgang A Herrmann said, “The upcoming TUM-CREATE campus will be a model for a unique and long term inter-disciplinary research cooperation between Singapore and Germany.  Both our countries share a highly skilled, educated workforce and a desire to spearhead clean technologies that shall seed new industries. Cooperation between Singapore and Germany in the field of education is one of the pillars of the relationship between our two countries. We hope to take our longstanding, trustful partnership with Singapore to the next higher level by offering joint NTU-TUM PhD degrees for research on electromobility at TUM-CREATE.

 TUM Bachelor programme is here!

GIST-TUM Asia has officially launched its first Bachelor programme on 10th March 2010. The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is offered from our world renowned leading mother university in Germany, Technische Universität München. This is made possible with the partnership between GIST-TUM Asia and Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).

SIT was established by the Ministry of Education in 2009 to provide industry-focused university education for polytechnic graduates in partnership with the five local polytechnics and renowned overseas universities, to produce highly desired graduates for growth sectors of the economy.

This tri-partite partnership offers a unique model that will not only provide an additional pathway for Singaporean polytechnic graduates to pursue industry-focused degree qualifications but also offer them the opportunity to pursue the same degree as at the home campus of the overseas universities at affordable costs.

Working closely with the Ministry of Education, various government agencies, as well as the local polytechnics on curriculum planning and admission criteria for the degree programmes, SIT will ensure that the two-year degree programmes offered will be of the same standard as in the universities’ home countries.
